The Beginning

Melanie and I are venturing toward a collaborative research project for a co-authored dissertation looking at technology grants at high-poverty, low performing schools in North Carolina. I say venturing because co-authored dissertations are still a rare process and we would be the first at our university to complete one. We are looking for universities that have existing policies and for copies of co-authored dissertations (We have one from Duquesne).

We started this blog as a space to reflect upon our process. There are many challenges we face as we move toward this project – the first being approval from our graduate school. We do have a supportive network of faculty around us which is wonderful.

My first disappointment has been the lack of response I’ve gotten from emailing professors at other universities who’ve done collaborative work. I’m hoping as we settle into the fall semester I’ll hear from some of them.

Please share your experience and opinions with us as we journey on….

More to come,

Danielle

  1. I realize this is a dated post, but whatever came of your attempt to write a co-authored dissertation? My research partner and I are currently attempting approval as well.

  2. I am compiling information about national precedents and so far my list includes these. I'd love to hear if you were at all successful at your institution in changing practice!
